HOBBY Q&AS: YOU SEND ‘EM, WE ANSWER ‘EM.

Howdy folks!

We’re back this fall week with another fun round of questions sent in by you, the lovely readers! I appreciate the support shown by the community.

Remember, any questions you have can be left here as a comment or sent to our email here.

Also, how awesome that this is the 150th post since starting this blog! How awesome is that? This has been a fantastic journey and I am eager to see what the future holds!

This blog may contain Magic the gathering set spoilers for Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Be warned!

How do you feel about individuals who refuse to share where they got their supplies or how they achieved an effect?

I think it’s a little odd, but people are like that ya know? I follow several artists who do this and they refuse to disclose products or methods. I’ve just learned that I will watch video after video until I figure out how they do it although I know it bothers many others.

I understand protecting proprietary information and the competitive nature of business is the norm in today’s society. It just feels wrong to me. Seems better to share supplies and uplift the community.

Did you play AC6?

I have very briefly but I was not the best at it. Video games aren’t my strong suit.

(I still have yet to complete Skyrim and I’ve been playing since 2014)

Least favorite mecha pilot?

Riddhe Marcenas. I was not fond of his character in Unicorn.

Dream gunpla kit?

Right now is the Kshatriya. It’s been a goal of mine to obtain one and do the funkiest things to it. Something like this:

How often do you buy gunpla? How much is too much?

Personally? I haven’t bought much in the last two years compared to prior years. Too much for me is when my backlog is like 10 plus kits. It feels like hoarding at that point. No disrespect to the folks who have large backlogs.

How do you prime small parts that you can’t clip?

Some individuals use blu tack but I use double-sided sticky tape. Either can get the job done well, it just depends on personal preference.

Opinions on SDs?

Love them! They’re small and cute! Probably should add more to the future build list now that I think about it.

Hydra Goose?

All hail the mighty Hydra Goose! I’ve been trying to pull the Goose Mother and have been met with little success. Sad times. Sad times indeed.

One of my favorite MTG cards!

Have you tried cutting masking tape on the Cricut?

Yes! I’ve been playing around with settings, but I think I’m finally getting to a result that I’m happy with. There will be a how-to published when it’s all finalized like with the styrene sheets.

Driven by my need for high end fashion gunpla customs

Art tip?

Make the art you like. Not the art that everyone else likes. Do what makes you happy. If you like painting plastic cows pink. Paint them pink. Why make art you don’t like?

Opinion on the IPMS fiasco?

I find it disappointing. I don’t know what can be done to correct the judging issues that have been going on at IPMS events. Hopefully, it straightens out as many builders I know love attending these events.

On a small side note, I did read a comment on one of the discussion posts about a cool idea for a scale model convention with no contest and just some workshops/seminars. Some business booths. I’d attend.

Ice Cream, dessert, or both?

Most days, neither. I do dessert on rare days.

Got anything interesting hobbywise lately?

Yes! I recently received this from the Cutting Mat Podcast! The first of their hobby magazine! I was looking forward to its release and cannot wait to see the next edition. Joel and the guys are killing it!

Pizza? Burger? Sandwich?

Burger over pizza. A five-guy burger, specifically. Pickles, cheese, and grilled onions in a lettuce wrap. (Gluten-free fun)

Pizza over sandwich. My favorite is ham and pineapple on a thicker crust. Banza crust is my favorite gluten-free crust on the market.

Sandwich? Fluff and peanut butter. All day. Every day.

How’s it been getting back into magic?

Addicting! I forgot how much fun I had playing it in my absence from it. I currently have a few cool decks built. Two are commanders. One commander is a blue-black fae deck with traumatize in it. The other commander is a mono-white angel deck. When the lost caverns of Ixalan drop I’ll be building a dino commander deck.

big need. so big.

As for standard, I have a board-wipe white angel deck and a red-blue dragon deck. All of them are incredibly fun to play and to play against.

hehehe

I also rediscovered my hatred for going up against mill decks.

Latest finished project? Wips?

Ah yes, my Louis Vuitton spring couture haro! It has two Swarovski crystals on its ear flaps and is laid in a bed of (fake) gold leaf.

I got the gold leaf at the craft store for like five bucks. I arranged it nicely then proceeded to sneeze sending it everywhere. It took ages to clean up. I’m still finding some on the workbench.

I am happy with how this turned out. I with the logo was a little sharper but oh well. Live and learn.

I have a ton of minis that I am in the progress of painting as well as the beginning steps of making DND terrain for my partner. I’m looking forward for the chance to practice my diorama skills.

I am also working on my cerulean project as well as two other gunpla wips. So much project backlog.
