Board Wipes, Indestructible, and… Pacifism?: Looking At My First Magic Deck

Getting into magic the gathering has been one of the best and worst decisions that I made. The wonderful part is that this has been a fantastic trading card game that has helped me in many ways. Playing magic as a shy kid enabled me to socialize in a way that was easy for me.

The downside is the price of cardboard candy, especially with how Hasbro’s been lately.

I was reading around and stumbled on this article on this individual’s first deck. I found it to be a great read!โ€‚Especially since I still have the very first deck I ever made.

It’s a mono-white deck standard deck. It consists of Life Gain, angels, and board wipes. There’s only one modern card added because I was missing a card for some reason. Iโ€™m not sure if one was dropped or lost at some point.

Is it a good deck? Eh. It’s an okay deck, but I do have fun playing it. It was a mash up of what I found cool at the time with no real clue on deck building knowledge. I could rebuild it, but I’d rather not. I may duplicate the deck and experiment with combos. Mono-white is often a tricky deck to build and one color that has been ignored. We need better mono-white cards!

How often does this deck win? Roughly 45% of the time. I’m not someone who cares about winning often. If I want to win I’ll play my Orzhov Phyrexian deck or a mill deck.

Yeah, yeah I play blue some times.

Here’s the deck list for my first deck:

Lands x 18
  • 17 x Plains
  • 1 x Radiant Fountain
Instants x 10
  • 3 x Avenging arrow
  • 2 x Angelic Mercy
  • 1 x Safe Passage
  • 1 x Celestial Flare
  • 1 x Ray of Revelation
  • 1 x Fated Retribution
  • 1 x Congregate
Enchantments x 10
  • 2 x Pacifism
  • 2 x Indestructibility
  • 1 x Holy Mantle
  • 1 x Burden of Guilt
  • 1 x Angelic Accord
  • 1 x Sigil of the Empty Throne
  • 1 x Guardian Zendikon
  • 1 x Sunbond
Creatures x 10
  • 2 x Serra Angel
  • 1 x Goldnight Redeemer
  • 1 x Seraph of the Sword
  • 1 x Favored Hoplite
  • 2 Quarry Colossus
  • 1 x Exquisite Archangel
  • 1 x Sublime Archangel
  • 1 x Setessan Battle Priest
  • 1 x Voices of the Provinces
Sorcery x 9
  • 3 x Winds of Rath
  • 1 x Armageddon
  • 1 x Excoraite
  • 1 x Revoke Existence
  • 1 x Santify
Artifact x 2
  • 1 x Profane Memento
  • Elixir of Immortality
Planeswalker x 1
  • Elspeth Sun’s Champion

I honestly think it would do better if I removed a few of the smaller cost cards and add in some lands as land pull is often a hit or miss.

However, I do love this deck and playing it brings back all the fantastic memories I’ve made with it! Nothing beats playing an old deck and getting hit with the nostalgia factor.
