Let’s Play: PokéPath TD

PokéPath TD is a single-player tower defense game made by Khydra98 on Itch.io. Navigate the team-building aspect of PokéPath while you fight wave after wave of enemies. There are nine routes to play through. Each has a hundred waves of enemies. The final wave features a legendary Pokémon.

I got this game about a week ago while browsing itch.io for the first time. The fact that it took me this long to look at itch.io is a shame.

(Feel free to shame me in the comments.)

It’s been the only game I’ve played since. There has been nothing but a consistent grind each day as I stubbornly get closer to level 100 on the routes. My gaming Achilles heel is that I won’t change up teams if I like them, even if the game strategy is shit.

There have been many hours spent on this game. I just beat route 1-1. Occasionally, I have it running in the background to grind for gold.

The sprites are cute. Starmie might be my favorite so far. He just spins fast. There are ninety Pokémon you can purchase at random. It makes teambuilding fun. You have to work with what you get, or you can grind to get that sweet gold! I have forty-three Pokémon so far. You can farm for shiny Pokémon. I’m not sure how to do it, and shiny Pokémon never really appealed to me.

Overall gameplay is pretty decent. I wish we had more power-up options or rewards for beating a route. Either way, the game is updated fairly often, so we can look forward to new content in the future.

It is a pay-what-you-can game. Do with that what you will. I enjoyed the free version, but the downloadable version is personally better. You can export your data from the free version to the downloadable version, so you won’t lose progress.
